Anyone who's taken improv classes can tell you it's so much more of a life changing experience than you would first expect. Sure, it's a great hobby... But where else is "failure" encouraged and celebrated? Where else can you make leaps of progress in ignoring your critical self-judgements? And where else will you laugh so hard and make new friends so easily? I went to Facebook and asked our students to message me with a paragraph about why taking improv classes is a great life move. Here's what I received... "Ten months ago I saw my first SAK show and knew with every fiber of my being that I had to take improv classes. I enrolled in their Level One class and have been taken on a whirlwind of an adventure. I have grown up in so many ways, not only as an improviser, but also as a person. I am no longer afraid to walk up to people, or ask questions, or act stupid. There’s no more nausea, no hesitation, no fear. I owe my life to the skills I learned in class for I am a better, more confident person. I also met some amazing people who I wouldn’t have met otherwise. -Lisa (SAK Grad) "It does not matter who you are, where you came from, what type of career, what color, religion or nationality you are. If you want to have the most fun imaginable, enroll into SAK classes. I met a lot of awesome people, whose goal is to make people laugh, and it transformed my life for the better. The best thing about the classes is that you have an opportunity to "GET OFF OF THE PLANET" for a few hours a week and leave any troubles behind...major therapy!!!" - Johnny Rothschild (Level Three) "Two years ago today I parked in the wrong garage on my way to my first Level One improv class. I was 45 minutes early. Convinced it was a sign, I tried to talk myself out of going for 30 minutes because I was absolutely terrified. Finally I told myself, "Just go in... GET OUT OF THE CAR!" Well since that day, so much has changed... I've written an award winning rap musical (yes, a rap musical!), I now count my teachers among my dearest friends, and now work at SAK as the Assistant Company Manager. If someone would have told me all the cool things I would've missed out on had I not gotten out of that car, I would've been real sad that I hadn't taken the chance. Don't let fear stop you! Get out of the car and get out of your normal routine. Try something new and don't be afraid! Be brave! Choose to be HAPPY!" -Lindsay Taylor (SAK Grad) "As a professional, I'm always looking for ways to grow in business and improve personally. I started taking classes through SAK U and immediately saw great gains in my interpersonal communications. I’ve become much more aware of details in conversations and improv has heightened my confidence which has led to greater wit and freedom from fear of failure. I would strongly recommend that any company wishing to empower their employees consider enrolling them in SAK U workshops. If you are a business professional (particularly at the executive level), please add improv to your professional repertoire. It will help grow your influence, improve your relationships, and build confidence for any setting.” -Josh Elledge, CEO SavingsAngel, Inc. (SAK Grad) "SAK is a place where people from all walks of life come together and leave their biases at the door. After I started at SAK I realized that improv was already part of my life. The classes teach you to listen and connect with perfect strangers. What I walked away with was more than just an acting class; it was a new outlook on life, an appreciation for those around me, and the courage to laugh at my mistakes. You learn to love spontaneity and relish the unexpected." -Lorraine Rosemary (SAK Grad)
